What are Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)?
AMP is an open-source library that provides a straightforward way to create web pages that are compelling, smooth, and load near instantaneously for mobile users.
Google has recently announced that they have developed a new campaign experiment type which allows you to direct traffic specifically to your AMP pages. The new campaign experiment methodology is known asĀ “cookie-based splits.”
Cookie-based splits are now the recommended method when you want to test your AMP pages in campaign experiments.
Here’s how it works.
By default campaign experiments assign users to a test or control group every time they enter a search. These are often referred to as search-based splits. Over the course of a day, users may see both test and control experiences and further to this you are able to determine which variant in your experiment is driving the most performance.
In contrast, the new “cookie-based splits” assigns users to the test or control group. As a result, any given user will either always see your AMP page (if they are in the test group) or always see your non-AMP page (if they are in the control group).
This new method will allow you to efficiently test and drive search traffic to your AMP pages. Happy testing!
